​Historical City Marker: Dallas, Texas
Founded: 1841 | In 1841, John Neely Bryan established a small trading post along the Trinity River that would become Dallas. The arrival of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in 1872 made Dallas one of the first rail crossroads in Texas, transforming it into the commercial capital of the Southwest. Today, Dallas stands as a testament to visionary building and strategic growth.

Historical City Marker: McKinney, Texas
Founded: 1848 | McKinney was named for Collin McKinney, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. On May 3, 1848, twelve yoke of oxen pulled the town's first building to the northwest corner of the downtown square. By 1875, McKinney's courthouse was the tallest building in Texas north of San Antonio. Today, McKinney was named the #1 Best Place to Live in America by Money Magazine and continues its tradition of remarkable growth.

Historical City Marker: Sherman, Texas
Founded: 1846 | Sherman was named for General Sidney Sherman, who commanded troops at the Battle of San Jacinto with the famous cry "Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!" General Sherman also built Texas's first railroad, the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway. In the 1870s, Sherman earned the nickname "The Athens of Texas" for its many institutions of higher learning. Washington Iron Works, founded in 1876, remains the city's oldest operating industry.
Historical City Marker: Durant, Oklahoma
Founded: 1872 | Durant was founded by Dixon Durant, whose French-Choctaw family arrived via the Trail of Tears in 1832. The town grew with the arrival of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad and served as a relay station on the historic Butterfield Overland Mail route. Today, Durant serves as the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and is officially designated the "Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma." It leads the state in economic development and represents the bridge between Texas and Oklahoma that NTEX proudly serves.
